IT'S ALIVE!

After weeks of planning and several minutes of designing, ComicCritique.Com officially came to life at 15:05 EDT on October 10, 2004! You are reading the Internet's newest publication devoted to reviewing comics. Why comics, you ask? Sometimes haughtily called "sequential art," comics happen to be an excellent medium for storytelling. As Robert McKee writes in his outstanding book Story: Substance, Structure, Style, and the Principles of Screenwriting, "Our appetite for story is a reflection of the profound human need to grasp the patterns of living." Although still firmly ensconced in the realm of pop culture, as a medium comics are now attracting storytellers who have already established themselves in Hollywood or as best-selling novelists or award-winning playwrights.

If you're new to comics or perhaps are just looking around in a fit of nostalgia, allow us to guide you in selecting which books to read. We plan to provide regular reviews of selected new releases and will soon compile a recommended reading list of new and classic comics.

Thanks for stopping by. If you have questions or comments please don't hesitate to drop us a note at feedback@comiccritique.com.
